My Space...aka: My sofa is here somewhere!? aka: Keeping it Real

---------------------------

I like to call this the:

"Me doing my part to make all husbands of the world appreciate their wives tour"

... Show them!  They just THOUGHT you were bad!...

*** WARNING! This tour is not for the faint of heart!
MESSY, Real Life, AHEAD!  ***

And, NO! I am NOT a hoarder! ... don't send that show my name! ... I just LOVE tools and every color of every thing I buy, whatever it is.
........
The computer room:
This is a picture of my computer keyboard/mouse area... SEE I TOLD YOU I have no mouse space!

And, this is just the side of the room I was willing to show you!  You can see that my vinyl cutter takes up more than it's share of my desk!

Now, let's move on, to the die cut room....

My brother installed the slat board on three walls of this room for me, then we used the left over scrap pieces in closets and the garage....LOVE MY WALLS!   It is sold by the panel, just look under "store displays" in your local yellow pages.  He also installed the pre-fab "kitchen counter" from the home improvement store for me...I love my brother!

the other direction... some of my dies (I use to sell die cuts before everyone could do it themselves)
from the back side (paper, you can never have too much paper!)

You can probably tell that I LOVE, and spend a lot, on good storage...I just have a problem putting things back in "their place"

Now, to the "Can't-find-anywhere-else-to-put-it-sunroom."

Paper cutter, spiral binder, embroidery hooper thingy and ribbon, lots of ribbon, (I have GOT to find a better way to keep the ribbon! there is just too much of it. ... See My Solution Here)  OH! and for those of you wondering about the tree in the corner.  That was a gift from some dear friends.  I mentioned that I thought it was cute and they surprised me with it a few days later.  It is a bear cub climbing a tree, not a bare Christmas tree..but a bear in a tree.

jewelry and button making stuff ... hummm...I NEED LABELS! that would at least make it appear to be more organized.

OH!  and we can't leave out the Embroidery section of the room!

Turn around and you can see my dining room... ever ready for the impromptu card making gathering.

Just so you know, this is what I was willing to show you!  No way you are seeing behind the closed doors where everything else is!!!

OK here is one more inside a walk-in closet because it has scrap slat board...storage for my SU! stamp wheels..

The rest of the walls (and floor) are shelves of the regular stamps, once in alphabetical order. Don't let the empty shelves fool ya, that's what is in the boxes on the floor!... and more are at my feet right now being scanned and being photographed for the big sale!!! .... after all I have to make room for my "next thing"!

.

My whole house may be messy but I will say this ...I haven't met a crafter yet that doesn't want to come spend a day digging to see what other treasures are buried within!  And my nieces LOVE it here!  We never have to go anywhere else for entertainment :-)

  1. I can't wait to see what you come up with! As for the room. I bet you know where everything is.

  2. OK Brenda, that one made me laugh out loud (REALLY)!! Listen, I bought TEN EXTRA pairs of scissors and 10 rulers to put on my dining room table...just so I could always find one when I needed it!!! NOT!!! There is a black hole in this house and everything seems to get sucked in! PITIFUL!

  3. Finally, a normal craft room. Creativity is an organic process and like most organic chemistry it makes a lot of mess. Never be ashamed of this! Tidy-tidy people are weird...

  4. Ya know, Rhissanna, I always think that there is NO WAY people can keep their craft space as clean as what they show online. That has to be a "just for the photo look". Most of my ideas come from the "stuff" that is all around me... if "it" wasn't there I wouldn't think of the next thing to do.

  5. How fabulous to see a normal working craftroom. I just wish I had a whole house for mine to spill out into......mmm wonder how the family would feel about living in the garden shed....lol!!!

  6. I am so with the other gals.. drives me friggin nuts all these pretty organized craft rooms.. they spend more time putting *#(@ away and taking it out than they actually spend creating. closed boxes and cabinets with drawers and doors. what's the point?! you never see anything that way.. I keep thinking "They probably have exactly what I'm looking for.. and they don't even know it"

I LOVE the die storage -- simple, effective and makes it easy to read the labels! wahoo!

  7. Hi Manic and DeeDee! THANKS to both of you! Manic, don't kick the kids out yet! But I'm thinking I WOULD TAKE THAT GARDEN SHED OVER! Who needs a place for shovels and lawnmowers anyway? Right?

And Dee Dee, in all fairness to the neat folks (though, I REALLY believe that all craft room photos are staged for photos... they don't really stay that way) I WOULD LOVE to be able to find just ONE pair of the 30+ scissors sometimes :-) But I guess that's ok too, I'm always up for buying even more scissors, since you can never have too many scissors (or paper cutters for that matter)

  8. wow just saw your post at Crafty Storage and I LOVE IT! I always see crafty rooms that are so perfect and end up feeling bad about my area (s) so I love the fact that your post was real life!!!! Why have a craft room when you can have a craft house????

  9. Thank you so much for keeping it real. I have all my stuff in our finished basement and it has taken over. I organize and reorganize but it just doesn't stay that way. Each time I make a project it's a mess again. After looking at all the craft spaces online I thought it must just be me that can't keep things clean and organized. It's great to see I'm not alone. Crafting is messy work!!!

  10. Hi Scrappin and Anonymous! YAY!!!! WE ARE NOT ALONE!!! Let the Messies unite! Heck, half of my best ideas come from the stuff I find on the floor around me! Seriously, most of my blogging is about the "AH HA!" sound I make when I see two somethings close to each other and my brain puts them together! See this post as an perfect example http://nancybabb-classes.blogspot.com/2011/08/this-one-makes-me-giggle.html

  11. thank you for showing a real craft room...mine is occasionally tidy...very occasionally but today it is empty!!!! I have just finished decorating and now i need to go and buy storage to go with my new decor....

    Sylvia

    happy crafting to you all...x

  12. You are so welcome Sylvia! It was easy, there is absolutely NO WAY I could clean up for pictures! I'm out of places to hide things!!! Every closet and cabinet is bursting at the seams now. I need to have a real garage sale, but i really like my stuff :-)

  13. Thank you so much for sharing this "real life" scrap place! And, yes I would have a ball scrapping at your place! WOW!!!

  14. This just made me smile. Like you I am all over the house as well since I live in a very very small place. Thankfully, my DH doesn't care as long as I am happy. : )

  15. The only craft room that look perfect belong to people that suffer form OCD and those that are staged. I don't fall into either category thankfully. I am one of those people if you try to organize my stuff I'll never be able to find it. Just leave it be and don't open my closet doors...unless you have really good life insurance. But ask me to get you something out of it that I haven't seen in 12 years and it will take me about 3 minutes. I know exactly where everything is...just don't touch my stuff or move it.

  16. Anonymous 1, it sounds like your husband is a KEEPER!!! Hang on to him!

Anonymous 2, Same here! I pretty much know where things are hiding... except, right now I NEEEEED that stinkin' box of bread ties and they aren't where they are suppose to be! And I'm the only one who would have moved them....???... so now the digging begins...ICK! I may have to improvise and find those another day.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment both of you! And to all of you that I didn't say that to already. I REALLY APPRECIATE you taking the time to comment!

  17. Thanks for showing your room.... I mean WHOLE HOUSE!! So then, I am not weird my studio leaks out into the other areas of the house? You have given us a whole lot of therapy.. for FREE!

    ReplyDelete
  18. O-M-G! How do you find anything or know what you have? LoL

    ReplyDelete
  19. Glad I could help Shelley! And Meari... I know what and where EVERYTHING IS!... I just don't want you to :-)... I may have to dig a little deeper to get to what I want but I KNOW its there. The trick is not having any other person moving things around.... there is no one else here so I know it didn't get carried off to another place....it is THERE!

  20. Love it~! Thanks for sharing! I have to show this to my husband so he knows that I am normal and I love that you don't have the perfect craft room or house.

  21. I love all your creative spaces! My crafting tends to overwhelm me sometimes, but I think I must be in good company! TFS!

  22. Thank you so much for having the courage to show us all your "stash". My stamping has taken over my whole house too but hubby is now saying it has to all go into my craft room or it goes...help!! He has one huge shelf for me he repainted so that will help. I do NOT know where all my stuff is except for my Cricut stuff. Now that hubby had cut off my spending, I am going into withdrawal, I have to organize. TY for sharing with us. ekc

  23. I'm sending this to my husband LOL! I just LOVE it! Keep on crafting!

  24. It's nice to see a real room for a change! I have to have a clear desk to be able to create and although my room is not like yours it isn't very well organised. Everything has it's place but there are so many things that need a home and I just don't have the time to organise it all yet. I know where everything is though and I keep with my motto that I should be scrapping not organising! Thanks for sharing! xo

  25. wow!!! do you even remember half the stuff you own? I love this post, i would think i had died and gone to heaven, think its time to get rid of my husband and the kids and turn my home into something that resembles this, LOVE IT!

  26. Hey ladies! Thanks so much for stopping by! It is indeed my goal in life to make other folks feel better about themselves :-) I think this post helps. And Paola, I do remember everything I have, I'm just out of luck sometimes if it requires quick retrieval! I will say this, the first place I usually look is under the sofa! HA! AMAZING the treasures that are there!

  27. Jean just sent me the link to your photos. I love your space too. I have too much stamp stuff and most of it defies being contained. How can I give up my retired stamp ses? I still like them. My cross-stitch, bead making and quilting stuff still need to be close, even if I don't have time to use it right now. BUT, my spices are in ABC order!
Thank you for sharing your photos.

  28. Organized people are just too lazy to look for stuff! Rock on, Nancy.

  29. I can relate to your space, it looks a lot like my sewing room. I don't think there's such a thing as too much fabric. I'm trying to organize our storage area (1,000 sq. ft.), but I know it's sooo much easier to find things if I don't put them into boxes.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hey Cathy! Just be sure YOU put them in the boxes!!! I just had a friend come and help me organize and now I can't find a thing!

  31. LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR ROOMS!!!!!

  32. It's wonderful to know I'm not alone in my messiness. BTW, you are a delightful person, and you made me smile today.

  33. Your 'space' is great. And if it works for you, go for it. I've scrapped at the dining room table, then to a scrap-desk-area, then to a room, then to a guest house, then back to a desk. Right now my scraproom is the dining room with no dining in it. But I'm moving again, so within a month or 2 I'll have a scraproom again. At least all my different types of crafting will be back in one room, if not organized? oh well. Comfort leads to creativity for me.

  35. Hi Ginny, MS_mystic and LbScrapgirl!!! I am SO SORRY I am just now seeing your comments! Thank you so much for being so kind! I had been "hit" by some haters from a "hater" site so I've avoided even looking here until today. I never knew such sites existed and its like WHY??? I have all but abandoned this particular blog because I was giving away ideas almost everyday only to find out there were folks out there hating me! WEIRD! I have actually changed blogs and don't get back here much.

Anyway! please know that I appreciate your kind comments! Thanks so much for taking the time to bother commenting.
